Dan(Daniel) Lawhon is a Kentucky native. He received his Bachelor of Music from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where he was the recipient of the Barton Barrett Church Music scholarship. He continued his studies at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where he and his wife(Sherrie) were the first couple to graduate together, first with their Master of Church Music degree and later with their Doctor of Musical Arts degree. While at SBTS, he accompanied the Seminary Choir, Oratorio Chorus and Church Music Drama productions as well as serving as chapel organist. He has studied organ with Helen Trotter Midkiff, Boyd M. Jones and Donald P. Hustad. He was awarded the organ studies award while at SBTS.

Dr. Lawhon has served in churches as pianist, organist or minister of music since the age of twelve. Some of his most recent positions have been minister of music at St. Matthews Baptist Church, Lousville, KY; organist/choirmaster at Adath Israel/B'rith Shalom, Louisville, KY and organist at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, AL. He has served as guest accompanist, choral adjudicator, keyboard or handbell clinician in much of the Southeastern United States as well as New York, Canada and New Mexico. He recently served on the music faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham as interim choral director.

Dr. Lawhon's wife is on the music faculty of Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
