David Hull was born in Kentucky on August 21, 1955. He grew up in the shadow of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY where his father was a professor and administrator. The family of Bill and Wylodine Hull, parents, and his sister, Susan, all attended the Crescent Hill Baptist Church where David was baptized as a Christian at age 12. Boyhood interests included music and sports and all indications through the high school years were that David was on his way to be a lawyer when "he grew up."

College was a time of growth and exploration. Vanderbilt University was the place for this learning. There he majored in Business Administration and was actively involved in fraternity life on campus. In the midst of this setting, God began to call David to follow a new direction in life. His Senior year of college was the time that he announced his calling to enter the vocational ministry.

Returning to his roots, David attended Southern Seminary in Louisville. He earned the Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southern. In addition, he met and married a beautiful church music student named Jane Shannon. Later the family grew with the birth of Emily in 1981 and Andrew in 1984.

Following a two-year tenure as Youth Minister in his home church of Crescent Hill, David has served as Pastor of the Burks Branch Baptist Church in Shelbyville, KY; the Candlewyck Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC; the First Baptist Church in Laurens, SC; the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN; and now the First Baptist Church in Huntsville. Following nine years of ministry in Knoxville, the Hulls moved to Huntsville in October of 2002 to begin the next chapter of pastoral ministry.

When he is not working, David enjoys basketball, tennis, movies, and spending time with Jane and the kids.
