Children's Ministry
Parent Education

Several times throughout the year, the Childhood Ministries Office will provide opportunities to learn more about parenting and related topics. These opportunities take place in a variety of times and settings.

Children's Safe Keeping Policies
It is most important to First Baptist Church that the children in our care are kept safe. Each volunteer that works with a child, from the nursery to the youth department, must complete a Safe Keeping class and pass a background check. Any volunteers on overnight trips with children must complete a more thorough background check. A complete Safe Keeping Policy Guide is available on this website.

ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT
We believe that the church has a responsibility to help parents educate children about their developing bodies. Our moral and ethical understandings are about all parts of our lives. We hope that church school teachers, ministers, parents, and children will join together for study around this important topic of adolescent development so that our children are empowered by this information.

SIXTH GRADE OPEN HOUSE
Sixth grade open house is a time for parents to gather information about 6th grade ministry. We have a time of fellowship followed with ministry
highlights. The open house is held on Sunday morning, at the beginning of the Sunday school hour just after the beginning of the school year. Look for the date and time in The Messenger or on the
Children's Calendar of Events.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
RAISING GREAT KIDS
What does it take to raise great kids? Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend help you provide both the care and acceptance that makes grace real to your child and the firmness and discipline that give direction. Avoiding the twin extremes of permissiveness and over-control, Drs. Cloud and Townsend show how you can help your child cultivate six necessary character traits: attachment, responsibility, reality, competence, morality, and worship/spiritual life. Join us for the video presentations of Drs. Cloud and Townsend and the follow-up parental discussion.

HOW TO TALK SO KIDS WILL LISTEN & LISTEN SO KIDS WILL TALK
Drs. Faber and Mazlish offer us the know-how to be more effective with our children-and more supportive of ourselves. The respectful approach of Faber and Mazlish makes relationships with children of all ages less stressful and more rewarding. Their methods of communication offer innovative ways to solve common problems. You'll learn how to: cope with your child's negative feelings, express your anger without being hurtful, engage your child's willing cooperation, set firm limits and still maintain goodwill, use alternatives to punishment and resolve family conflicts peacefully. Join us for the video presentation and the follow-up parental discussion.

PREPARING FOR ADOLESCENCE
What do you say to an adolescent who's getting ready to enter those turbulent teenage years? Dr. James Dobson, one of America's leading family psychologists, knows how to speak directly and sincerely to adolescents, about the topics that trouble them most: inferiority, conformity, puberty, romantic love, and identity. Dr. Dobson's insights, concern, and sincerity quickly win the respect and attention of his readers, as he helps them in Preparing for Adolescence. Join us for the video presentation and the follow-up discussion.

How can I be involved?
